The Government worsened its fiscal deficit target for the combined months of April and May by $2.1 billion. Revenue and grants at $37.7 billion was $5.5 billion lower than budgeted, but a $3.4-billion cut in planned spending on programmes, $1.12 billion less interest payments than expected, as well as $1.4 billion less flowing out of the coffers on capital expenditure during the month translated into expenditure levels of $59.9 billion.
